I am an English circus theatre maker based between Bristol and the Southeast, specialising in unusual object juggling and narrative-driven circus.
My hearing loss inspired me towards visual arts and physical theatre, with a passion to tell silent stories without barriers. Through my company, Tit for Tat, I develop and tour ensemble circus theatre shows as well as solo work to events and venues across the UK and the EU.
Inspired by silent comedy, my work explores the connections between people, objects, and movements. As a juggler, I enjoy working with everyday objects as vehicles for human expression or innovative play. Whether its bowler hats, drying racks, library books, or even supermarket trolleys, I like to uncover and celebrate the peculiar qualities of seemingly mundane things. I have enjoyed working with companies such as Wet Picnic, Extraordinary Bodies, Cirque Bijou, Joy Magnet, Diverse City, Unstable King, and of course many inspiring artists in my own company Tit for Tat Circus; touring nationally and internationally with shows such as ‘The Lift’, ‘The Ball’, ‘The Aperitif’, ‘GAME’, ‘The Most Dangerous Cup Of Tea In The World’, ‘Books!’ ‘Now I Am Become d/Deaf (Destroyer of Words)’ and ‘Rung by Rung’.
I originally trained at UK circus schools Circomedia and the National Centre of Circus Arts, and in clowning and physical comedy with Philippe Gaulier, Jos Houben and Les Bubb. I have had the pleasure to work with and learn from several inspiring practitioners, including Fraser Hooper, Bim Mason, Flick Ferdinando, Sean Gandini, and Wayne Clendennen – who doesn’t have a website, but is hands down the funniest practitioner I’ve ever met.
I am highly experienced across group devising, circus theatre integration, character work, and creative juggling theory. I also have a very niche and specific specialism in hat juggling (yes, thats how niche jugglers can get), combining movement with manipulation to create a very unique style of performance.
